Dear JGS Community,
We are starting a new virtual online tutoring program every Wednesday, where you can be tutored in any subject that you are having difficulty with. Please let your teachers know if you are struggling with a subject and we will pair you with the tutor that is right for you! Alternatively, you can e-mail Assistant Principal Dimas at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once you let us know, we will contact you directly to set up your first tutoring session and introduce you to your tutor. Slots will fill up fast, so make sure to sign up RIGHT AWAY. Tutoring sessions will last for up to 30 minutes and will be overseen by a teacher. If you have any questions, please ask! We hope that this new program can bring us all a little closer together!

The DOE is conducting a survey about students and parents impressions of the online learning platform. We invite all students and all parents/guardians of students in grades 3-K through 12 to participate. For more information about the survey, and to access the survey itself, visit https://www.schools.nyc.
Hello J.G.S. Students,
Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences started remote learning classes on Monday, March 23 using the Google Classroom platform.
Scheduled classes are not by the periods you are accustomed to, but are now structured in what we call “Cycles”.
The core classes: Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies will be cycled four times in the morning starting from 9 a.m. to 12 noon for 45 minutes per session.
Electives, Spanish, Music, PE and AP classes are scheduled between the hours of 1p.m. to 4 p.m. also in cycles.
**All AP courses that are not your only Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science courses for credit will start in the after-noon of 1p.m. to 4 p.m.**
You are responsible to log in daily to all of your classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
On Wednesdays, your attendance will be taken only by reporting to your assigned subject teachers below, before you start any tutoring sessions (which begin at 1pm) (Check in for attendance is 1:00 to 1:30 pm for Wednesday ) :
o 9 graders go to your Science class
o 10 graders go to your Math class
o 11 graders go to your English class
o 12 grader go to your Social Studies class
Daily attendance, Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri, will be documented based on your participation online and will be reported to the DOE each day.

Update for Families
Many families have communicated to us that they do not have full-time access to technology in order to meet the requirements for online learning (which will begin on Monday, March 23rd).
If this applies to you, please fill out the link below to request an iPad from the DOE:
If you have multiple school-aged children living in your household that require technology for remote learning, you will have to complete the form for each student.
(*The iPads will be loaned to the student and must be returned to the DOE when we return back to school. Please note that the DOE will reach out to you (using the contact information on the form) about picking one up. Students and families are responsible for arranging pick up and return of the iPads.)
Additionally, here are some resources about companies offering free wifi for students who need access: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kjVFeWefjnEfUrCR2yXxOvsp6_rDOfaMivUEiaBreiA/edit
Please let me know if you have any questions. We are all in this together! ~~~JGS School Counselor Lauren Rosen
